Due to the ever increasing demands on my time in opening a new business in downtown Clinton, I have turned in my resignation as Executive Director of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce. I have enjoyed working for the businesses and organizations in our community and will miss interacting with everyone on a daily basis. June Business Spotlight of The Month: This month the business spotlight shines on “The Bookworm” located in the Roger Heights Shopping Center at 1303 Hwy 65 S Suite 8, tucked in behind the KFC restaurant. You can’t miss it with all the bright flowers our front. Owner Michele Cross has been in business for 10 years. I asked Michelle why she decided to open a bookstore & she replied that she & her family had collected right at 3,500 books and needed to do something with them! June 11th Archey Fork Restoration on the Little Red River Phase two of the restoration is complete, and you’ll be amazed at the river’s new look. Join us in celebrating this major milestone made possible by many friends and partners. We will gather at Archey Fork Park, rain or shine, for brief remarks, refreshments and a tour of the project along the city’s new River Walk Trail. June 13th Clinton All Gospel Music Festival – FREE Admission from 11am to 7pm. Groups to perform include The King’s Highway, The Nelson Sisters, The Sulphur Road Pickers, Amen Choir and The Remnants to be held in the Clinton High School Cafeteria from 11 AM to 7 PM. Raffle tickets are $1 or 6 for $5, all items have been donated by area businesses. The concession stand will be open offering a wide variety of sandwiches & drinks. June 17th Wine Bottle Art – A free adult workshop for making creative items from wine bottles beginning at 5:30 pm at the Dirty Farmers Market on Main Street. A light snack will be served and all supplies will be furnished. Each participant will be allowed to take home one “creation” and are encouraged to stay and make more as a donation to the market. June 20th Butterfly Release Program, beginning at 10 AM. The very popular butterfly release program will once again be presented at the South Fork Nature Center. The program will include butterflies in their many stages of development and there will be ample time for real hands-on learning. This program is free and open to the public. June 25, 26 & 27th Archey Fork Festival – Thursday the carnival starts, Friday will feature softball tournaments and entertainment. Saturday visit all the vendors, entertainment, fireworks, plus the fishing derby and car show, which will be located on the Square. There’s still time to secure a booth, so contact the Chamber for an application.

The Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is now accepting applications for the position of Executive Director for the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce. Please send to 290 Main Street, or email to cltchamber@artelco.com.

The Chamber has received a notice from the Army Corps of Engineers giving notice that there is currently a study underway concerning the reallocation of water storage in Greers Ferry Lake to water supply. The purpose of the study is about the reallocation of 18,866 Acre-feet of storage in the Lake. If you have concerns or imput to this matter contact Mr. Craig Hilburn at 501/324-5735 or email David.C.Hilburn@usace.army.mil no later than June 15, 2015. I have a copy of the letter in the Chamber office.

The FFB Community Education Center will be offering a class on making Cement Planters. Master Gardener, Barb Foster, is teaching this class. The class will be held at the “Grass Roots” Cabin in Ed Leamon Park in two session class. First session is Tuesday, June 9th from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. with the second session on Friday, June 12th from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. The cost $15.00 and will be limited to six (6) students. Ozark Health Alzheimers support group will be held on June 3 at 2pm in the Hospital Board room.

FFB Announced their “Gomer & Patsy” musical and comedy show which started May 19th and runs through September 15th at the FFB Convention Center. Show time is 7 PM, adults at $15, children 6-12 $10, under 5 are free. Plus, beginning the Thursday June 4th and continuing the first Thursday of the month will be “Ladies Night Out” with a light supper at 5:30, movie at 6:30 all for a $10 donation.
